NPL Day 105

Day 105: Friday 29 September 2023

Grønemyr-Bossbu via Bykle

Woke up to a really cozy morning in the tent. It was unusually warm - we're not used to sleeping down in the forest anymore.

Another thing that was unusual was that Lukas was the one who was tired, not Kim.

But finally we took down the tent and made our way down to the store, Coop Prix Bykle. The plan had been to come there at 8 when they opened, but now we started hiking at 9 even, so we were really slow.

We had already planned what to buy, and the last store had all of those things we wanted to buy. This one didn't. Every single thing (except for tomato, onion and minced meat) we had to skip and pick something else instead. Really annoying, when we could have bought it at the previous store if we had known.

After the store we did some road walking, down, down, down, until we had to go up, up, up. Up a steep hill. We talked to Lukas parents for a few minutes, then left the road and started to hike on the trail. Almost immediately the terrain got tough for Kim, and she got in a really bad mood after having to cross a river that was marked with a bridge on the map. A bridge that in reality seemed to have never existed in the first place. Then she was bitter over the trail, that it wasn't well-marked, it took weird choices in the terrain etc. Everything was wet and slippery and uphill. And a few km later came probably the toughest uphill on the entire hike for Kim, and for her it felt like it took years to climb it.

But we reached the top, and suddenly it wasn't warm and sweaty anymore, but really cold. It was windy on the other side, and Kim now had to put on a lot of warmer clothes. It also got hard to see the cairns, even for Lukas, and usually there was no path at all. At least until we came to a crossroads, where one of the trails came from another nearby road. After that the path was REALLY clear and easy to follow. We continued down, passed a tent and finally reached the hut that to our surprise was very dark. No other people were there. Nice! But we were still confused, we thought it was still hunting season so that someone would be there, and we also thought we had felt the smell of smoke from a distance. Maybe it was coming from a private hut a little further away, that there was also coming light from?

The hut was big and luxurious, and we quickly made ourselves at home. We found a double lower bunk bed that we picked, then Lukas made a fire and some really nice food - hamburgers! Fresh hamburgers with tomato, mayonnaise and honey/sugar-glazed onion.

We were really happy to be inside, it was incredibly windy and rainy outside. We checked the weather forecast from our Garmin Inreach and saw that tomorrow would be really windy too. 10 m/s and 18-20 m/s in the gusts. Yay...
