NPL Day 107

Day 107: Sunday 1 October 2023

Øyuvsbu-Fosstjønn

When we woke up today, the fog lay over the surrounding area like a white blanket. It rose slowly as we sat inside finishing our breakfast. The weather was really nice most of the day but once again, the trail was not... It was very muddy and slippery, which meant that it was both tough and time-consuming. '

For dinner/lunch we stopped by a small hut beside a lake, a few km north of Gaukhei. At first we had planned to go there, but it was a bit of a detour and not really necessary. Especially not on a day like this! But it was good that we found this spot, because we were both really low on energy and we felt a lot better after eating.

After the lunch/dinner break the weather slowly got worse. Some mix between mist and rain followed us the rest of the day. We call this “spray rain”, when there is so much fog/mist that it is more like rain, but at the same time it doesn’t feel like rain at all and is more like a lot of humidity in the air.

The terrain consisted of a lot of ups and downs and the sun started to set. As it got darker, it also got a lot harder to see as the light from our headlamps got caught in the water drops in the air. We started to descend into the forest, and we could feel it, because we had more trees around us now and the ground was completely soaked. In the darkness, the water was hard to avoid too, and we got really wet. The “spray rain” also slowly turned into more regular rain, which didn’t exactly help.

Finally we reached the road, which was a relief. And luckily enough there was a good spot beside the gravel road, where we could pitch our tent.
